Synopsis

Adrenaline rushes through your veins as the bell sounds, the gate springs open, and immediately you and your twelve hundred pound horse are thrust forward down the dirt track. You ramp up to speeds of forty mph as you grab another hold of the reins to conserve your horse’s energy for the big stretch run. Mud from the horses in front of you pelts your face. You watch your competitor’s moves and count fractions of seconds to know the pace. Now you're turning for home with the finish line a quarter mile away. It’s time to let your horse
loose. You energize him with every ounce of your body and ask him to dig deeper. He picks up speed as you navigate between horses looking to save ground. You've got one horse left to catch but the wire's coming quickly. The suspense heightens as the roar of the crowd grows louder and louder. You finally match strides with the leader when your horse edge's his nose in front for the victory.

The thrill and emotion of being a jockey is unlike any other sport. But, what if you're a woman and this is a “gentlemen only” sport? What if you're denied your life long dream and passion to ride professionally because the world says it's illegal

for a woman?

JOCK will take you back to the late sixties and early seventies, when our mothers and grandmothers faced such career limiting discrimination. It was a time when “the weaker sex” was considered fragile and incapable of making split-second decisions let alone controlling a thousand-pound horse. They were derogatorily referred to as “jockette's.” Their passion to ride, led to sexual discrimination, ridicule, and physical and emotional sacrifice. But this very passion became just the weapon they needed to overcome the obstacles they faced. This feature length documentary explores the women's fight for the right to ride and takes viewers inside the

threatened egos of the male jockeys who harassed, intimidated, and even boycotted races to stand in their way.

For the first time ever on film, JOCK will thrust the viewer into the bizarre world of these lady Godiva's who broke down the barriers, saddled up, and ultimately made their way to the winner's circle. Audiences will see how these unconventional jockeys became media darlings, only to learn their victory was far from complete. We’ll expose how their need to constantly hustle mounts forced them into compromising situations, from accepting dangerous rides on crippled horses to providing sexual favors. JOCK will re-live race winning

thrills and career ending spills. In the end viewers will see how women braved the intense pressure, grew exponentially, and found themselves riding in the most prestigious races of all, including the Kentucky Derby.

JOCK will inspire and motivate women of all ages. The collective efforts of these heroic jockeys prove that passion is more powerful than any obstacle.
